As a personal project, I developed a series of illustrations for the book The Siren, The Song, and The Spy. After communicating with the author, Maggie Tokuda-Hall, she described how she envisioned the characters’ appearances and backgrounds, allowing me to create a more accurate portrayal. This experience taught me the importance of an author’s input and the importance of always taking careful consideration of their vision.

Overall, this project was incredibly important to me — not only because it is a story I hold dear but also because it allowed me to design diverse characters, conscious of the different heritages and histories that inspired the book.
